Campus West (Saints) Captain 2021

Oliver Carroll

A good leader is one who:

  • Knows the way!
  • Shows the way!
  • And goes the way!

This is a quote that I found which I thought summed up how I want to go about my college captaincy for 2021.

I feel extremely privileged and humbled to be selected as part of the leadership team. This is an honour and something I will take with great seriousness and responsibility. As our school is still new and evolving, I am really excited to be a part of team that can help make our school bigger and better than it already is.

I came to the Scots School in Year 5. Having come from a much bigger school on the Central Coast, I was quite nervous. It was a big change for me, but my teachers and peers were so friendly and helpful, it made the transition very easy. I feel like I have been here my entire life.

I have always tried to be involved in not only the classroom, but as many co-curricular opportunities the school has available. For example, school musicals, sporting teams, lunchtime competitions, debating and school carnivals. I participated in all these events to ‘have a go’. It does not mean I came first in everything, but my goal has always been to try my best, not be the best.

My personal objective for this year, as the Campus West captain is to be approachable and dependable. I hope that all staff and students get to know and trust me and feel comfortable bringing ideas, suggestions or concerns to myself and the leadership team. Bring on 2021, and, as I stated at the beginning, let’s hope I can:

  • Know the way!
  • Show the way!
  • And go the way!
