College Captain 2021

Simi Atluri

It is my privilege to be elected as one of the 2021 College Captains for Scots All Saints College.

The leadership team has a rare opportunity to cultivate new traditions in a recently integrated school. For the coming year, we plan to increase student involvement, in both academic and extra-curricular areas, increase house spirit, create student accessibility to our projects through a constant feedback loop and host fundraisers to further integrate the college into the wider community.

Throughout my 12 years on the Scots Campus and at the College, I have had the opportunity to hone my areas of interest. I enjoy reading modern classics, writing scripts for theatre and spending time with my friends. I have been involved in public speaking and debating for the majority of my school life and I joined the Mock Trial team in Year 10. I enjoy volunteering to help run fundraisers at the Bathurst Neighbourhood Centre and I’ve been volunteering at the RFBI Nursing Home every Friday since Year 9 (although COVID-19 has prevented this in recent times).

Volunteering has improved my communication skills and introduced me to many members of the community that I otherwise would not have had contact with. I have also had the opportunity to train with the Rural Fire Service and become a mentor in Year 10 and many teamwork skills were challenged and ultimately enhanced. I am currently in the process of beginning my Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award. The Silver Duke of Edinburgh Camp was a difficult experience and yet, a very rewarding one as I was challenged to preserve and endure.

As College Co-Captain, I strongly believe in consistency, the short-term and long-term initiatives the leadership team has formed are there to be achieved, not to look appealing on paper and only through continuous effort will we be able deliver on our plans. I am honoured and excited to be working with the teachers and students of the College throughout this year.
