Sheep Team’s first show outing

This last weekend brought with it the first outing for the Sheep Team at Blayney Show, with a record number of exhibits and schools in attendance to compete and exhibit their animals.

Against some stiff competition, one of our College-bred rams was awarded the Reserve Champion Australian White Ram and was exhibited proudly by Stirling Miller.

Another one of our ewes took out Reserve Champion Australian White Ewe, with Amelie O’Brien doing a great job of showing her animal to its full potential. In the handlers classes, the students were now under the microscope and achieved a range of second and third placings in their heats, which was impressive considering this was the first show for many students.

More importantly, though, the team got their first experience of livestock showing and got to put all of their skills into practice. With this being the largest team of sheep and students I’ve taken to a show before, the students really impressed me with their dedication to their animals and willingness to learn.

The team are now looking forward to the Bathurst Show and the opportunity to be involved in a larger competition, with some work to come on handling techniques and brushing up on their interviewing skills for the Young Rural Achievers competition.
