Woolworths Master Blaster Under 7’s Cricket: SASC Lions v RUCC.
We had a lovely sunny morning to start our Under 7’s Cricket season for the year. SASC Lions played RUCC at George Park. We had a lot of parents on the sideline to support us and players were excited to play their first game. We have a mix of students that played last year and some new players to the game. SASC Lions was captained by Nick Lenehan who won the toss and elected for his team to bowl first. I was very impressed with our bowling as we scored 6 wickets and kept RUCC’s run rate to a very manageable total. Our batting partnerships proved to be very successful with players calling and supporting each other. We scored 81 runs with Alexander top scoring with 19 runs. Thank you to the Lenehan family for providing the fruit and to Tom’s Dad for scoring. It was a great, positive start to the season. SASC Lions Player of the Week – Tom Roughly. Don’t forget your hat, joggers and water bottle on Wednesday afternoon for training.  Next Saturday SASC Lions play City Colts at George Park at 9:15am.

SASC Red took on SASC Blue in the opening round of the Under 9s Master Blasters Game at George Park. All players were very enthusiastic about their first game of the season and couldn’t wait to take the field. Isaac Munns won the toss and elected to bat and combined with Felix Brown to make 18 for the opening partnership. Harrison Leet and Nicholas Dunstall added 39 for the second partnership featuring a couple of ‘8s’ from Harry as he made his way to 30. Iggy Knight (42) and Jenson Hornery (32) combined nicely to add 74 for the final partnership and took the Reds score to 131. In reply SASC Blue got off to a solid start with Ben Lenehan (21) and Dylan Monico (17) overcoming a few run outs to make 38 for the first partnership. Unfortunately there were a few mix ups with the running between the wickets. Rory Hutchinson, Carter Beech and Divjot Nat added a further 24 in the middle order whilst Alex Host (18) and Charlie Roohan (15) closed the innings out at 95. The game was played in a great spirit and it was awesome to see how enthusiastic everyone was. I’m looking forward to the next game already.

The beginning of the season brought a host of exciting faces and nervous energy throughout the ground from both sides. Our boys were up against St Pat’s White for the first game. After the toss we were sent into bowl, starting with plenty of wickets and holding the batting team to few runs. Highlights came from a host of runouts from many players along with the support of their bowlers. Standouts were Benji 2/1 off 3 overs, Jono 0/3 off 3 overs, Tim 2/8 off 3 overs and Charlie 3/3 off 2 overs. Thus, holding the opposition to a total of 58. Our boys were then up to bat. We had a great start with Ed (16) and Jono (29) opening the batting, then followed by great support from the rest of team Tim (22), Charlie(17), Callum (18) and Benji(17). This great batting display leads to a total of 239 for the team. Player of the Week: Charlie Crocker 17 runs, 3/3 off 2 overs.  I’m greatly looking forward to an exciting and successful season for the boys.

Great first victory to start the season with. Captain Leo opted to bowl first. Bryce, Ben and Grayson got 2 wickets each with contributions from Oscar and Jack getting one each and a great run out by Toby restricted City Colts to 9-118. Lacey and Ava opened the batting steadily and built a very good foundation. Grayson top scored with 16, with Bryce and Ben both getting 13 each. Other great contributions by Leo, Toby and Oscar got SASC to 2-94. Player of the match Jack performed admirably with an overall great performance by the whole team.

SASC U/12s 1/141 defeated Lithgow 5/87

A fantastic start to the season! After being sent-in by the opposition and losing a wicket via run-out in the first over, U/12’s batted superbly. Archer, Liam and Lachie all retired with scores of 44*, 22* and 26* respectively. Angus (17*) and Ollie Carroll saw out the final balls, with a phenomenal score of 1/141 coming from just 22 overs. Will struck in our first over, courtesy of a catch by Liam. Rudi grabbed a wicket in his second over, and Will again struck in his 3rd. With 2 run-outs from Archer and Tyler, Lithgow were restricted to just 87 runs, thus sealing a victory for the U/12’s!
Player of the Week went to Angus for his amazing innings with the bat and his great spell of bowling! Congratulations everyone!

The u13s Lions were sent into bat on a very bouncy Watsford Oval deck, against last season’s premiers, stacked with representative talent. Unfortunately we lost key batsman Charlie Rendall early, however Tim Anderson (4) and Max Hemsworth (12) fought hard to see off the opening pace attack. Banjo Goodlet came in at four and top scored (22) and when Seth Wilson (2) was dismissed, Darcy Harris came in and blasted a crucial 21 to get our innings back on track. Our tail failed to wag however and we were bundled out in the last over for a total of 90. In the changeover we discussed the slow outfield and difficult pitch, so we felt as though we may be able to defend the total. We got off to a great start and had Lithgow ‘on the ropes’ early after having them 2/5 off three. That was before their big hitting rep players stepped in! In the end Lithgow surpassed our total four wickets down and with four overs remaining, however we walk away from that game with confidence of a solid season ahead, knowing we have plenty of room for improvement as a team. Wicket takers were Patrick Anderson, Darcy Harris, Ben Lloyd and Seth Wilson who produced the ball of the day! Highlights of the day were; seeing how happy our team was for Masa Hiko Ilsuka when he caught a screamer at cover in his maiden cricket match, Year 5 students Banjo Goodlet and Max Hemsworth performing well beyond their years and our Player of the Match, Darcy Harris, have a great all-round game with bat, ball, gloves and assistance with field positions.
Well done boys!

SASC 14’s started their 2019/2020 campaign with a tight win over Rugby Union. SASC were sent into bat after losing the toss but Charlotte Lindsay and Lachlan Martin got off to a terrific start with a 60 run partnership. Charlotte was the first to go but Lachlan went on to score his 50 before retiring. Alex Morrisey batted well for 20 whilst Lewis Schoenmaker and Captain Zane Newham closed out the innings with an unbeaten 28 and 17 respectively with SASC gaining 3/158 after 25 overs. Fielding and bowling was excellent with James Hillsdon and Hugh Argent Smith opening well. Patterson Abel and Charlie Hodges showed promise before Zavier Adams’ spin got the breakthrough. Alex Morrisey followed quickly with a wicket assisted by a sharp catch from Zane. Zane bowled beautifully late, getting swing with the high winds for a sharp LBW and the ball of the day, an outswinger catching the edge and taken successfully by Alex as keeper. Jayden Spackman, after keeping beautifully early, came on to bowl produced incredible spin to gain a wicket whilst Lewis Schoenmaker rattled the woodwork during his spell for his first wicket of the season. With RUCC needing 9 runs off the last ball, Jayden stood up and produced a wonderful and tight over to hold them to 7/154 and victory.
