Hot on the heels of the Sydney Royal Show, our students were eager to prepare for the Bathurst Royal Show, proudly representing the College at our local event.
This year, we exhibited three College-bred cows and calves, three young heifers and five steers. Our success in the school classes was outstanding, with our cattle dominating the competition. We were awarded both Junior and Senior Champion and Reserve Champion Female titles, as well as the prestigious Supreme Exhibit. This honour went to our College-bred cow, Scots All Saints Queenie (affectionately known as the “cranky cow”), shown with her calf by Olive Moppett, Georgia Campbell and Georgina Webb.
Our success continued in the open classes, where our cattle again claimed both Junior and Senior Female Champion titles, along with Supreme Exhibit. This time, the accolade was awarded to our young heifer, Scots All Saints Wanda, expertly prepared and led by Matilda Penfold.
Students also excelled in the Junior Paraders and Junior Judging competitions. Special congratulations to Marcus Wythes, who was named Reserve Champion Parader in the 16–18 years division, and Eloise Davies, who placed 1st in the 13–15 years division.
In Junior Judging, our students delivered exceptional performances, with many advancing to the finals, where they presented oral justifications for their placings. Tara Matthews was outstanding, taking 1st place, while Ruby Milgate also impressed, earning 3rd place.
The ever-popular Fancy Dress competition was once again a highlight, with students embracing the fun and creativity of the event. Congratulations to Ruby Milgate and Jane Johnston for winning this entertaining class.
Sunday’s steer classes capped off a remarkable weekend. Our team won all three categories—Lightweight, Middleweight and Heavyweight—and were awarded Grand Champion Steer of the Show with a College-bred Limousin calf led by Georgia Campbell. We also received Reserve Champion with “Wiggles”, a much-loved Square Meater x Limousin cross bred by the Kirk Family and led by Amanda Penfold.
One of the standout achievements of the weekend came through the Young Rural Achievers Awards. This prestigious competition involves a written application and interview process prior to the show. Judges commented on the exceptional calibre of our students, noting how difficult it was to determine the winners. Results were as follows:
• 1st Place: Georgina Webb and Fraser Wythes
• 2nd Place: Marcus Stanley
• 3rd Place: Ally Gill and Matilda Penfold
• Highly Commended: Marcus Wythes and Quade Penfold
A sincere thank you to all students for their outstanding commitment, teamwork and work ethic throughout the show program.
Special thanks must also go to Phil and Laura Kirk, who led the team in my absence and did a remarkable job. We are incredibly fortunate to benefit from their expertise and dedication. Thank you also to Alister Meek for his support on Friday, and to Bruce Inwood for his tireless work behind the scenes.
Overall, the Bathurst Royal Show was a tremendous success and a proud moment for our College community.
