Head of College - Mr Richard Ford

As 2025 draws to a close, the College community has much to look forward to with a series of exciting events and significant developments.

Carols on the Green – Friday 28 November

Join us for a festive evening on the Junior Campus Chapel Lawn from 6:00 pm. Carols on the Green will feature a showcase of musical talent and traditional carol singing. Bring along a picnic and a blanket and enjoy this wonderful celebration with family and friends.

House Spirit Day – Thursday 4 December

House Spirit Day will be held on the Senior School Campus. Please note that this year the event is for students in Year 3 to Year 11. Meanwhile, our youngest students in Preparatory School to Year 2 will enjoy a range of fun activities on the Junior Campus.

Celebration Day – Friday 5 December

Our final official day of Term 4 will be marked by Celebration Day at the Charles Sturt University Gymnasium, Panorama Avenue, Bathurst. The event begins at 9:45 am for a 10:00 am start and will be a memorable farewell to the school year for our entire community.

Important Update: Parent Communication Changes

Looking ahead to 2026, there will be some changes to our parent communication systems, which we hope will mean parents have a better “one stop shop” for information about their child and what is coming up at the College.

In preparation for this, further details will be shared next week by Deputy Head of College, Em Shanahan, outlining what this transition involves. Before the end of this year, we hope that all parents will log in and access the new platform so that it’s ready for use by families from the start of 2026.

Please note that from the end of this year, Operoo will no longer be supporting schools in Australia, and consequently, this platform will become redundant and no longer something parents will need to access.

We look forward to celebrating a number of end-of-year events with you and progressively introducing parents to the functionality of the new parent communication system.

Christmas Hamper Chocolate Update

Thank you to all those students and families who have already sent in packs of chocolates, which will be added to hampers soon to be packed for families in our community. As a reminder, we’re looking for multi-packs of individual chocolates (such as the 12 packs of mini Mars Bars) to include. Other boxes of chocolates, etc., are also welcome. We’ve made a start on reaching the goal of 650, but we have a long way to go. Please give these to either the classroom teacher, the Head of Year, or me.

On a related note, our students are hearing stories from the book of Acts in the Bible during Term 4 Chapels. One of the most striking things about the early Christian Church, which we observe both in the Bible and in other historical sources, is the incredible generosity and charity those early believers showed.

A raid on a Church in 303 A.D., as part of the persecution of the Church, didn’t find gold or treasures. Instead, they uncovered (as the recorded list confirms) eighty-two women’s tunics, thirty-eight cloaks, sixteen men’s tunics, thirteen pairs of men’s shoes, forty-seven pairs of women’s shoes, and nineteen rustic belts. Those who had hoped to find gold and wealth would have been disappointed. The reason for the collection, of course, was that those who had received the abundant kindness of God, through Jesus, were now seeking to show it to others. May we who have received God’s grace continue to find ways to show grace to others. Our Christmas hamper appeal is just one means of doing this.

Year 7 2026 Orientation Day
Next Monday (17 November), we look forward to welcoming the Year 7 of 2026. Our House Captains will support and lead the students through some team building games, a scavenger hunt of the campus, run an information assembly and play some sports with the students. The students who are boarding will spend a night getting familiar with the house, its staff and routines. Moving into secondary schooling can be an exciting and sometimes anxious time for young people; however, we know that there is a great team of students, staff and community ready to welcome them and support them and their families. We are also looking forward to meeting and chatting with parents at the registration in the morning, at collection in the afternoon or at the parent information session in the early evening.

Big/Fun Days Out and Spirit Day
Our Year 8 and 10 Heads of Year have been busy preparing the Big/Fun Days out for their students. A full day of travel to different parts of Sydney is planned, with some memorable, fun and collaborative activities planned in the last week of the school year. Our Year 7 and 9 students had camps during the year where they travelled away, but they will not miss out, as their Heads of Year are also preparing for some fun days at school in the last week. To continue with the celebrations of the school year, the whole Senior School will have the chance to enjoy the fun-filled House Spirit Day on Thursday 4 December. We are in the initial stages of planning for this day with a team of staff and senior students. This year, Spirit Day will be held on the Senior Campus, with Junior School students transported to and from each campus. We expect that all students will attend school on this last day and also attend Celebration Day at CSU on Friday 5 December.

Social Media Age Restrictions and Support for Families
We again provide some information to support our parents and carers with the upcoming social media age restrictions on 10 December. In the article found at the link below, some useful information on how parents and carers can speak to and support their children during this potentially difficult time may be of some use. At our most recent senior school assembly, I was able to speak to the students about previous historic government introduced legislative changes (tobacco and alcohol) and the reasons why they were done, these being that the health of young people was endangered, and the changes were being made as research had identified the dangerous consequences and that changes would help to make things safer. A prepared response that may be useful for parents when in conflict with their child about the social media age restrictions could be…

“I know it’s hard. It’s out of my hands, this is a decision made by the government. We may not like it, but this is the way it is. Can I help you find another way to connect with your friends or participate in these communities?”

https://www.sydney.edu.au/news-opinion/news/2025/11/04/how-to-minimise-family-conflict-over-the-social-media-ban.html

Over the final weeks of the school year, we will continue to support students with the changes and provide advice on how our young people can stay connected with their peers over the Christmas and New Year holiday period.

Head of Senior School

Prep School

Prep Waratah

Prep Waratah have been enjoying a very busy Term 4. Currently, our primary Literacy focus is ‘Appreciation & Being Thankful’. Over the weeks, we learnt what it means to be thankful and the importance of thinking of others. We embarked on a gratitude journey and expressed our appreciation through fundraising and giving to the TEAR Fund project. We also made our own gratitude headband and listed three things we are thankful for.

We have also had a lot of fun with several sensory activities during STEM to expand on our creative thinking abilities. Practical experiences helped us to understand volume, capacity, mass and fractions during Maths lessons.

Sports

Sports Draw

As we reach the halfway point of the term, it is pleasing to note the strong and positive start made by our Summer Sport teams.

Our Cricket program is off to a fantastic beginning, with the Under 11, Under 12, Under 14, Under 16, and 1st XI teams all remaining undefeated. This strong early momentum reflects the hard work and teamwork shown across the program.

Our Basketball teams have opened their seasons tremendously, demonstrating determination and a competitive spirit. A special mention goes to the 7/8 Girls A and 9/10 Boys A teams, who have both started the season with an impressive 3–0 record.

In Touch Football, our boy’s and girl’s programs have been busy with local gala days and away fixtures in Sydney. Our Girls 2nd Touch Football team is currently undefeated and sits at the top of the ladder.

The ISA Tennis competition remains closely contested, with all teams currently holding one win and one loss as they strive to build momentum throughout the season.

We wish all teams the very best of luck in the final rounds before the break.

Director of Sport and Activities

Book Buzz

This week, over on the Junior campus, in our K-2 library lessons, we took a moment to reflect on Remembrance Day as we shared ‘Anzac Ted’ by Belinda Landsberry. We thought about those who make sacrifices for us in our own lives and shared stories about parents and grandparents who have served their country.

A reminder about Scholastic Book Club.

Issue 7 closed on Monday 3 November, and orders will be distributed to students as soon as they arrive.

The final Book Club for 2025 Issue 8 is available for collection from the library, Preparatory School or Reception.

The online booklet is available for viewing, ordering and payment. When placing online orders, please have your items delivered to your home address rather than the school, as we cannot guarantee delivery before the end of the school year.

All orders for Issue 8 need to be submitted online by 24 November 2025.

Over on the Senior campus, in our Year 7 library lessons, we are continuing our exploration of digital citizenship, this week focusing on the design tricks employed by tech companies to keep us online. As we identify more pieces of the digital puzzle, we hope to grow into increasingly conscious digital citizens who can participate in the online space with real agency.
