Scots All Saints dominate steer classes at Blayney Show

Our first show is always a busy one, with all of our cattle having their first outing and many students experiencing their very first show.

We had a wonderfully successful day with Scots All Saints dominating the steer classes, taking both Champion and Reserve Champion Steer. Matilda Penfold’s and Ally Gill’s steer took the win in the heavyweight class and went on to take out the Champion Steer.

Marcus Wythes and Doug Cleton’s steer took out the reserve champion ribbon.  Both steers were bred by our very loyal supporters, the Kirk family.

In the lightweight class, our Simmental steer, bred by Jess Adams and led by Georgie Berry, won the class, and Charli Raynolds and Claire Corkhill’s Limousin steer, again bred by the Kirk family, won the middleweight class. The judge, Nathan Leach, said he was blown away by the power of meat in our steers and wished us all the luck for the Sydney Royal.

Matilda’s success continued in the Judging class, taking out the Champion Junior Judge, and our young gun, Jane Johnston, competing for her very first time, was awarded Reserve Champion Judge.

There were many entries with 10 making the final, and Scots All Saints students again dominated, filling 8 of these 10 final positions.

Finalists had to do an oral talk on their placings of the animals in front of a large crowd. Congratulations to Dominic O’Brien, Jane Johnston, Matilda Penfold, Tara Matthews, Hugh Cleton, Marcus Stanley, Fraser Wythes and Laura Moorhead for making the final.

I would like to congratulate our team leaders – Laura Moorhead, Marcus Wythes, Amanda Penfold, Marcus Stanley, Hugh Cleton, and Fraser Wythes- who led the team with professionalism and maturity.

Our younger students all stepped up and showed that they had learnt so much from their mentors and gave me insight into a very impressive future for the team.

We now look forward to the Sydney Royal Easter Show in a few weeks and will be making our final preparations for the big event!
