Visual Arts and Design excursion

Visual Arts and Design students travelled by College coach to Sydney on Thursday 2 May, to view the 24th Sydney Biennial at the MCA and the newly opened White Bay Power Station.

Thirty eight students from Years 10, 11 and 12 spent the day exploring artworks at both venues made by indigenous, national and international contemporary artists.

Australian contemporary art has been hitting the world stage recently, with one of our own first nation’s artist winning this year’s Venice Biennale. In equal measure, the works viewed were impressive on many levels. Many works made comment on many issues, perspectives and experiences.

Students’ own practice and knowledge of art materials and conceptual understanding were undoubtedly added from the experience.
