We join our whole Scots All Saints College community in celebrating Year 12 2024 student Poppy Starr’s wonderful achievement of being announced First In Course for Primary Industries.
‘Poppy has worked incredibly hard over her two years at Scots All Saints College and is deserving of this extraordinary result of First in Course for Primary Industries,’ says Head of College Mr Richard Ford.
‘Working with our Primary Industries Teacher, Mr Alister Meek, with a cattle-focused program and with Ms Libby Dawes our Director of Agriculture and Equestrian, Poppy was able to make the most of their extensive industry knowledge and her own lived experience working on her family’s farm outside of Cowra, to achieve these results.’
131 students from 80 schools across the state topped HSC subjects. Poppy came equal First In Course for Primary Industries with three other students, all four girls from regional NSW.
Arriving at the College from Cowra as a boarder in 2023, Poppy was quick to shine in her areas of interest, including Public Speaking where she progressed through several competitions including CWA and Lion’s Club Public Speaking Competitions. Poppy was an enthusiastic participant in the College Cattle Team, played Hockey and served as the Social Justice SRC (Student Representative Council) Prefect.
This year Poppy won joint runner-up in the regional NSW Parliament’s Public Speaking Competition in May and came second in the State Final for NSW Lions Youth of the Year Competition.
Looking ahead to 2025, Poppy is excited to be heading to University of New England to study a double degree, a Bachelor of Agriculture/ Bachelor of Laws.
