On Saturday 7 December when most of us are enjoying a slow and easy start to summer school holidays, Year 11 Boarding student Angus Argent-Smith will be riding his pushbike from the front gates of Scots All Saints College Senior School Campus to his home town of Rankins Springs, some 365km to the south west, not far from Griffith.Â

Angus aims to complete the ride in one day, estimating it will take between 12-14 hours starting at 3am from the College’s Senior School Campus front gates, travelling along the Mid Western Highway from Bathurst to Grenfell, then turning off to Bimbi then Quandialla and on to West Wyalong, avoiding the Newell Highway. From West Wyalong he will rejoin the Mid Western Highway for the final 90km to Rankins Springs, finishing with a hometown welcome in the centre of town. Â
Gus is using this experience to raise much needed funds for the Isolated Children’s Parents’ Association (ICPA), an organisation with which our Boarding families are very familiar.Â
The ICPA is a voluntary parent organisation that has its roots firmly embedded in rural and remote Australia. It was founded in 1971 in Bourke NSW, following closure of the Bourke Hostel that had provided much needed accommodation for children living on remote properties so they could access education.Â
Angus has been training hard for this extraordinary endurance event and seeking advice from cycling, endurance and triathlon experts including his coach Rory Thornhill, Mark Windsor, Brad Hart and local Ironman Richard Hobson.
Gus will have a support vehicle for the ride and will start out with Richard Hobson riding alongside.
The College community will be keenly following Angus’ big ride home on 7 December.Â
