Congratulations to Year 11 student and Boarder Angus Argent-Smith for winning gold on Sunday for Australia in the Junior Mixed Relay at the World Triathlon Duathlon Championships in Townsville.
Angus also produced another amazing result, coming in fourth in his individual event, the Under 19 Elite (Junior) Duathlon, on Friday 16 August.
The Sprint Duathlon includes competing in a 5km run, 20km bike ride, and 2.5km run.
Angus started strong in the first run leg (16:02), maintained his pace on the bike over four laps of 20km along The Strand, and finished fourth in the last run leg behind an Australian, South African, and New Zealander. Despite being one of the youngest in the race, he achieved a very impressive feat.
Two days later, Angus and Hannah Pollock teamed up in the Mixed Junior Relay, racing alongside the Open Elites, and secured a gold medal win. The event had a high level of competition, and Angus was grateful for all the support he received.
Angus’s dedication to training can be seen in his early morning and evening running sessions on the Senior School Campus ring road, as well as his frequent swimming at the town pool.
Leading up to the championships, Angus spent countless hours in his room on his bike with the heater set to 30 degrees to simulate the heat for Townsville.
Well done Angus!
