MAD Night

An evening dedicated to music art, design and textiles

MAD night was a vibrant evening dedicated to music, art, design and textiles. Showcasing musical performances and amazing art from all years.

This important event on the Scots All Saints annual calendar is incredibly valuable, particularly for our performing artists who take this chance to hone and practice their pieces prior to HSC marking.

These were performed by Year 12 students Benjamin Lloyd, Olivia Brabham, Will Crosland-Hamer, Carly Goldsmith, Gabriela Rodriguez-Hannouf, William Helms, Laura Scott and Jai Valabjee. We wish them the very best in the HSC.

Other performances were given by the Amadeus Academy Jazz Orchestra, Elective music groups and individual vocal and instrumental performances. All were incredibly entertaining and fabulous displays of talent and musical education.

On display were artworks from across all year groups, including portraits, vanitas photography, clay skulls, printmaking, landscapes, and repurposed furniture from our Visual Design class. In addition, there were many talented and skilled Year 11 and some Year 12 major projects.

The night was a sell-out, with over 170 people. Thank you to all the parents that provided an incredible variety of food and managed the hospitality, it was greatly appreciated. Also, a big thanks to the music, art, textile and design teachers for making it such a great night.

From three student perspectives:

Compere
MAD night was an amazing experience, with a large variety of performances from music students across the College. With so much talent and passion flowing through the air, the atmosphere was transformed by the stunning outcome of hard work, dedication and climbing the ladder of success in their chosen instruments. As a presenter, I got to sit up front, and I’ve gained a massive appreciation for the effort to show us how spectacular music can be. Not to mention how we were all in anticipation together for the announcement of the next Scots All Saints musical; High School Musical. I’m sure I speak for everyone when I say, I am so excited to see what the future holds in the music department. – Alicia Davey

Performer
MAD night, hosted by the music and art department was an extremely successful night. All of the music performances were outstanding, and we had a large variety of different instruments and styles. Having an opportunity to perform in such a relaxed setting is a great opportunity especially for the younger years and becoming more comfortable with performing in a safe and welcoming environment, it is yet another demonstration of the amazing talent featured at Scots All Saints. – Ed Neill

Visual Artist
MAD night was a great opportunity to exhibit art that I have created, as there aren’t many opportunities for family and friends to have a look at it. It helped to receive feedback from other perspectives, especially from people who weren’t other art students or teachers. To listen to them and figure out the meaning behind the artwork themselves was really encouraging. -Evie Adams

Art Awards:
People’s Choice Awards were voted on the night, with the winners presented at this week’s assembly.

They were: Emmeline Jacobsen of Year 7, Vesper Pearce of Year 8 and Oscar Yordanoff of Year 11. Congratulations to these three shining artists.

The art department took the opportunity to introduce The Karalee Art Prize; this is awarded to a student who is most deserving of encouragement in the field of visual arts as a result of a clear display of artistic drive and talent.

This award goes to: Benjamin McRobert in Year 9 whose work of animals was of exemplary quality. Ben was also a finalist in the Young Archie Awards, which elective art visited on an excursion last Friday to the Art Gallery of NSW and the S H Ervin Galleries.
