Write a Book in a Day

On Wednesday, two teams of eight students worked from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm to Write a Book in a Day!

Team SASC1, featuring Charlotte Wilson, Chelsea Hall, Claire Granger, Grace Yeo, Tess Lenehan, Amelia Humphreys and Abigail Brakell, met the challenge head-on. They were required to write a story featuring a council worker, a trapeze artist, a lamb and a heatwave. They had planned a story in no time featuring a council worker trapped in a melting Ice Castle with Tasty the Lamb.

Team SASC2, starring Charlotte Collins, Eliza Dowton, Hugh Brown, Sam Gunning, Harrison Leet, Scarlett Fox, Gemma Norton and Grace Byrnes, received parameters that required them to shape their story around a paramedic, a flight attendant, a tennis court and Christmas. Their narrative centred around the Royal Flying Doctor Service landing a helicopter on a tennis court to treat a broken leg.

The day is ultimately a test of teamwork and perseverance. The competitors soon realised that their book would only be a couple of paragraphs and pictures without cooperation and hard work. Well done to our teams, who made it to the end of the day and demonstrated the collaboration skills necessary to write and illustrate a 3,500-word book.

This was all to raise money for the Kids’ Cancer Project, an organisation that funds research into the treatment of childhood cancers. The students have been considering the ways they can use their gifts to show compassion to others as part of Compassion Month.

Our teams have raised over $3,000 at this stage, with more donations to come! Thank you to everyone who has contributed to this generous amount and supported our teams through this challenge. The books will also be read by kids in hospital to transport them to another place through the power of the imagination.

A printed copy of each book will be available in the Senior Campus Library for anyone who wants a riveting read!
