Year 8 French Canberra Excursion

A group of our Year 8 French students embarked on an exciting trip to Canberra as part of their French immersion program.

Throughout the day, the students were fully immersed in both language and culture, with a standout experience being their visit to the French Embassy.

During the visit, they interviewed staff members from various departments, including Education and Culture, Political Affairs, Science, and Economics, conducting their conversations in both French and English.

A highlight of the trip was meeting the French Ambassador himself, who not only shared insights into his career and his passion for AFL – particularly the Brisbane Lions, whose anthem is the French national anthem, “La Marseillaise” – but also engaged with the students about the “Les Amies Françaises” program they are involved in. The students eagerly discussed their ideas on how to maintain contact with their peers from Sainte Ursule in Pau, which was a meaningful part of the conversation.

The students also attended lessons at the Alliance Française language school and wrapped up the day with a visit to the Art Gallery, where they were mesmerized by the works of Gauguin.
